This blog will walk you through the different pages of our reference material so you can use the guide with confidence.
The first page of the cross-reference guide is dedicated to our bare MIL-DTL-83420 aircraft cable. Traditionally, there are two styles of aircraft cable specified in MIL-DTL-83420, Type 1, which is bare, and Type 2, which is jacketed. Strand Core offers exclusively Type 1, bare aircraft cable as seen in the sub-heading of each section under the material composition.
Next to the material type, you will find the material composition which is designated by the letters A and B. Comp. A is galvanized steel, and Comp. B is corrosion resistant 302/304 stainless steel. So, if you were looking for bare, galvanized aircraft cable, you would look in the Type 1, Comp A section. If you were looking for bare, stainless aircraft cable, you would look in the Type 1, Comp B section.
Page 2 of our cross reference guide includes call outs for MIL-DTL-87161, MIL-DTL-83140, and MIL-W-18242B aircraft cable. Quick Note: MIL-DTL-87161 is available in stainless steel with a 1x19 construction, and includes both right lay and left lay options for each designation. When ordering a MIL-DTL-87161 cable, do not forget to specify the lay direction, as each configuration has its own Strand Core Part Number.
